fsck not working!
« on: August 23, 2006, 02:01:04 AM »
This one's sort of urgent... well, really urgent.

When I rebooted my server it came up with the error "Resize inode not valid" on /dev/main/root and suggests that I run fsck manually. So I give the root password and execute 'fsck /dev/main/root' and it asks me if I want the resize inode fixed. Of course I answer y. Then it comes up with some duplicate blocks and couple of other things. When it's finished apparently fixing things it tells me that the filesystem was modified and i should reboot. When I do it goes through the exact same thing with the resize inode, the identical duplicate blocks, etc. like it didn't fix a thing.

I did notice that I cannot edit or create any files because the filesystem is read only. How do I get fsck to actually make changes to the partition when the filesystem is read only?

I haven't been able to find an answer on this and really need help on this one. I tried to use a live cd but I'm running a two disk RAID 0 (created by the SME installation) on my server and the live cd's don't recognize the array.

Thank you very much for any help or suggestions.

The two disks are in RAID1 (mirror) not RAID0 (striped).

You're right, I realized that after I posted and left. Any ideas on how to repair the filesystem though? I need this up asap as my customers aren't getting email at the moment.

Thanks,
