SME 7 on Athlon 64 very very slow
« on: August 30, 2006, 09:40:06 PM »
Hi there all..

been a while since my last visit..

decided to try SME 7 on a new box of mine, but for some reason it is dog slow..

i've got a Athlon 64 3500 on a asus a8n-vm board with two SATA II 80GB drives using the onboard nvidia raid and 764MB ram. I thought it would be pretty decend but it is very very slow, is there anything i can do to tweak it? I dont even know where to begin looking.

I've run SME on AMD before without any probs, anyone have any suggestions?

Much appreciated..

g

I think you are going to find that it is the nvidia chipset. I had trouble when trying to install 7.0rc2 on a motherboard with nvidia, or newer via chipsets.

Have you tried installing Centos and seeing if you get the same results?

hello..

for those who are interested.. here are my findings..

installed Centos 64bit - was very very slow
installed Centos i386 - works perfectly

then, i too my SME 7 cd and installed it on a SUN X2100 server that also uses nvidia chipset and it worked fine..
