Topic: Problem with DNS

Hi , i have a little prob with SME Server v7 final. It is configured as a standalone server (no gateway) and it is behind a router . Problem is that when i hit www.mydomain.com it doesn't show me the webpage. From internal network it works perfect; from outside the internal network doesn't.
The network topology is llike that:

Internet---- Router -----Switch----- SmeServer
                                            -----Workstations

In the top level domain the nameserver for the domain is ns.mydomain.com as i have named my SmeServer. From external netw if i set http://ns.mydomain.com in the browser  it works but i don't understand why only that address works and not www.mydomain.com.
The workstations entered in the hostnames zone are not recognized from external netw. only internal. meaning that is not translating ip addreses in names.

In Configure this server, set the router (localIP) as the gateway and also set the router (localIP) as the DNS server
You will also need to forward port 80 from the router to sme server (in the router configuration)

Thx .... but i have a range of public Ip's not private ....and the router is configured to route not do NAT. Firewall is configured to allow.
The SME-Server has a public ip and its perfectly visible from the internet if i enter the ip and not the domain name, here is the problem, he doesn't translate ip's in names .....
For example if i hit ping on that domain from INTERNAL is shows me a reply and its ip addres. If i ping it from EXTERNAL ( ping www.mydomain.com) it does not reply to me, but if i enter  its ip addres it works...it replyes.... so i think the route is ok.

It seems that you have a problem with your dns servers. Where are your dns servers now? (you can check at www.dnsreport.com - enter your domain name).
You have to change the entries in your current dns servers to point to the ip of the SME Server, or you can set up SME server to be your primary dns server (this is done at the company that sold you the domain).
