Appletalk not working
« on: February 06, 2002, 07:42:57 PM »
Just installed 5.1.2 ; tried twice.
Server only, no gateway. Created an iBay.
SMB sharing works ok; web, ftp and mail too.
However, server doesn't show up in mac's chooser.
IF I try to connect via IP address, it does connect. So Netatalk is running, at least under IP. But AppleTalk protocol either is not running, or is not being able to publish its name.

I also tried issuing an "atalk start" as I saw in a previous post, it did say "appletalk starting in background", but still the server doesn't show up in the chooser.

My AppleTalk network is zoned, by the way. It has two zones.

I think the web admin pages should include an "AppleTalk Zone" selector in the same way it includes a "Workgroup" setting for SMB services...

I'm sorry if this is a bit too obvious, but is the AppleTalk control panel on your mac set to connect through ethernet?
As a test I just changed my AppleTalk interface to the printer port and indeed the server did not show up in the chooser, while I was able to connect to it through its IP. This does seem consistent with your problem.
Hope this helps,
Robert
