Incoming Mail Failure
« on: October 04, 2006, 03:01:49 PM »
I had a friend set up two email accounts that work.  I tried to set up a new account for another person.  I can email out, but I can not get mail in. I have seen spam go to the junk mail folder in my new users account.  When I reply to email sent by my user, I get an error message that reads as follows (lizzie is my SME servers name):

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at futuretouch.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<irene@lizzie.futuretouch.com>:

I do not want to ask the person that set up the working email.  I want to try and fix this problem via the forum.  Seems to me there was something in SME I did not set up in the user account that would enable incoming mail to this horde account.  Outlook 2003 shows all green X's in the test email.  The user account is not allowing Horde incoming mail.  remember two other accounts work perfectly.  TIA, Malcolm
I am here with no technical training.  However, I can do this by Grace and a little help from all of you. Thanks for what you are doing. A lot of us little guys are helped and look GOOD because of you. We are no longer at the rear of the heard.

Malcolm

Check all your group memberships. You probably have the user as a member of a group that they already receive mail for, so the message is being redelivered (looping).

Thanks, I tried and removed the user from all groups.  I have even more email in the junkmail folder.  I still get nothing in the inbox. nothing is going into the inbox.  If you would, send me a test eMail to the account.  see what you get back.  TIA, Malcolm

Something must of corrected itself. I have done nothing but what you suggested I do.  I
wonder if I can now let her belong to a group without the problem re-occuring????

Thanks you very much, Ray!

Which means you did something !

Be careful how you set up group memberships.
Keep in mind groups are also valid email addresses, and will forward a message to all the users in that group, so you may have set up a group to inadvertantly deliver a message to a user who then forwards that message to a group they are already a member of, thus looping & never being received (or something similar).
