Hy
I have a question

I'm new at sme server (or any other linux server) and i would like to host multiple sites (eg: site1.domain.com, site2.domain.com, site3.anotherdomain.com...) with different users.

Now i don't know how to do it. I have read wiki, faq, different howto's and searched this forum. I found only one topic but it didn't help me.

I made ibay and groups and tryed it that way but with no luck.

I would like to create a user and issue him some webspace for his site or just make a mail account for him.
The only person who can use ibays the way i pictured it seems to be the admin. I made a test account and he didn't have a folder to publish sites into, but he could go back to root folder and use ibay. Is this a lan only incident?

Can anyone help me with some advice?
"It should just work" if it doesn't report it. Thanks!

You made no mention of reading the manual, wouldn't that be the obvious place to look for any software program you are new at using ?

http://www.smeserver.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=40&lang=en

Some hints,
create a seperate ibay for each domain
create your additional domains using the server manager Domains panel and point them at the corresponding ibay
Configure external records to point all those domains at your sme server external IP
Add required users, read the pseudonyms section of the manual carefully as it now has additional info about multiple domains & email account configuration (that I added).

Email accounts are created automatically whenever you add a new user or pseudonym or group, BUT see the pseudonyms section of the manual for the issues you need to consider when using multiple domains.

Webspace for users is another issue and is not provided by default. There is a new contrib still under development for sme7 (but functional now), you will need to install & configure that.

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=33638.msg146148#msg146148
but make sure you read teh whole thread

Different users will be able to access different ibays by their group membership rights, so you make each ibay owned by a different group.
This provides local access using filesharing and ftp access.
You cannot anonymously upload to ibays at all.
Alternatively VPN to the server and then access the ibay share.

This is all covered in the manual, which I think you need to carefully read, especially the ibays chapter and the need to use a sftp client.

Also search the forums on ftp & sftp as this requirement has been answered a number of times recently. There is a contrib from dungog.net that you need to make configuration easy, see smeserver-remoteuseraccess

Thanks for your post but i have read the manual three times not to mention that i have gone trough the ibay chapter about ten times as well.

For example:
password protection: the administrator can specify whether a password is required to access an i-bay from the Internet and what that password will be.

So if i don't choose password protection the site will be accessible trough http and ftp?

And why does my user have access to all my ibays and accounts?
Admin has just the same access as does my other test user.

I'll try the stuff you told me to try for the webpages.

And another question. Why should i use my isp's dns provider. Doesn't sme use it's own dns.

Edit:
The file you gave me works like a charm. Remoteuser access.
Users can log only to their html folder now.
"It should just work" if it doesn't report it. Thanks!

This allows public access via web or anonymous ftp for read access only not write access.

I suggest you don't try to read paragraphs of the manual in isolation to other paragraphs, you will construe the wrong meaning.
Also read it while actually looking at the server manager panels.

I assume you are referring to DNS server, you should configure sme server to be your local network DNS server, which it will be by default.

Ok i have done as you told me and it works fine now. Thanks.

Sorry for the paragraph reading, but when you read trough it so many times as i have you mix things up. :)

I have another question for you.
I want to have webmail on mail.domain.com not on domain.com/mail can i do this trough dns settings or do i have to point the external dns server to this domain (redirection).
I'm from slovenia and dns server is from america so my users have to browse from slovenia to america and back and that takes a long time.

I tryed to set dns settings from mail.domain.com to local ip but i added subfolder (192.168.0.1/mail) . It doesn't work. I get a blank page and the domain isn't changed. How can i do this from sme? If i can do it.
"It should just work" if it doesn't report it. Thanks!

You should use your domain registrar's DNS server to publish your domain DNS records. SME server does have its own dns, but it only provides data to your internal network.
