Backup Solutions for SME 7

How does one go about backing up SME Server 7?

I wish to backup to an SMB share on another machine or preferably DVD-R or DVD-RW.

I mean a decent backup of settings etc. as well as files. I also want to be able to schedule backup jobs in a flexible manner.

Backup functionality is one area where SME7 does not seem to have improved noticably.

I was looking into DMay's backup2 contrib, but I can't even seem to find a current version of it. The only version I've found is for SME6, pointers on these forums for an SME7 version seem to go to a directory which doesn't contain any SME7 version...

Please help...

cheers
Rob

There are many backup contribs for SME7.

1) The most well known is Backup2 from Darell May :
smeserver-backup2-1.0.0-b1dmay.noarch.rpm
is avalaible here :

more info in this thread :

2) Mondorescue is an  other one that I don't know but seems to have many lovers :

3) A little but talentuous french Cie [:)] has work hard to adapt one of the best Backup Software for SME 7, with a lot of functionnalities (on is the avalaibilty to choos betweenn different version of a file before restoring) :
sme.firewall-services.com/backuppc/
Discussion about it :
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=32089.0

And there's more, I let others to add here.

I think you couldn't anymore thinking that

...and it's the same thing with hundreds of contribs in a lot of domains ...
That's the full SME power !

Backup2 has been superceded with smeserver-dar2. Details here:

Should reach final release soon

There is also e-smith-backup with dar, an upgrade of base e-smith-backup which provides full support to backup and restore from smbfs, cifs or nfs share on the LAN, and also support backup to local usb disk.

Besides full backup and restore, e-smith-backup with dar provides also easy selective files and directories restoring through panels.

Another unique feature is about backup security : backuping through LAN is a process that may fail for a lot of reasons, or that may be fast or slow.
e-smith-backup with dar integrates a timeout system which cleanly stops the backup within a selected timeout, so no zombie process is left in memory in case of failure. For large datas, timeout provides also a way to do backup sessions which have duration more than selected timeout (and even more than 24h on the weekend) because incremental backup is supported.

e-smith-backup with dar is available at : http://bugs.contribs.org/attachment.cgi?id=572&action=view
