Cisco VPN out not working
« on: February 10, 2002, 03:14:03 AM »
I'm having a problem making a VPN connection into work from home now that I have my home network behind an e-smith box.  I can make make PPTP connections out, but the Cisco VPN out is not working (used to work before the e-smith installation).  Not sure what is so special about this Cisco client (v3.5 with stateful firewall turned off), but you have to load thir client to create the connection.  When I run their Cisco logger utility, this is what is returned:

1      16:09:13.920  02/09/02  Sev=Warning/2   IKE/0xE300007B
Exceeded 3 IKE SA negotiation retransmits... peer is not responding

2      16:09:13.970  02/09/02  Sev=Warning/3   DIALER/0xE3300015
GI VPN start callback failed "CM_PEER_NOT_RESPONDING" (16h).

The VPN is up - I checked with a coworker who connected no problems.

A guy at work said he had to put a rule into Blackice Defender allowing all traffic to and from the VPN IP.  If this is the case, hwo do I modify ipchains to allow this and what is the syntax?

Thanks,
Kevin

I have no experience with Cisco VPN whatsoever but I think you might need to install the portforward rpm and find out what ports it's using. Forward these ports to the pc you want to use to connect to your work.

good luck
