Receive email (SOLVED)
« on: June 13, 2008, 07:40:18 PM »
I am not able to receive emails though all my previous setups seemed to work perfectly.  This seems to be the appropriate part of the log file.

2008-06-13 13:23:09.675894500 5530 dispatching mail from:stevezemlicka@gmail.com

Your mail client said:

mail from:stevezemlicka@gmail.com

whereas the SMTP RFCs require it to say:

mail from:<stevezemlicka@gmail.com>

It is a real mail client (or remote MTA) which is trying to send that mail, or is that a test you are doing via telnet?

I have my gmail account forwarding messages to my account.  Nothing changed with gmail and it used to work until I resetup the server. AFAIK, that is what gmail was sending to my server before.  But no other emails are comming through either.  It's frustrating because all the other times I setup SME, it just worked.

Any other ideas or suggestions for fixing this if what you suggested is, in fact, the problem?

So that part of the log file seems to be when I did a telnet into the server.  It seems no messages are even getting to the point of getting into the log file.  I can telnet in over port 25 so I know my firewall is configured properly.  What else could be wrong?

Turns out after over a year of e-mail usage, my isp decided to block my port 25.  Their residental support claims not to block ports but after accidentally speaking to a business rep, apparently they do.  He claimed it was a fluke that it wasn't blocked.  I can understand a fluke for a month or two but not a year.  They probably noticed traffic on that port and decided to block it along with 80.  It was pretty funny though because the residential rep told me to call linux because they might have a glitch in their software.  Anybody have the number for linux?!? :-P  How rediculous.  Anyway, I'm done ranting.  Thanks for the help.

Which such support people I would seriously consider another provider if possible... the story put the first smile on my face for today :-)
