Backups with DAR
« on: November 16, 2006, 02:36:04 PM »
Hi everyone,

I have a problem.

I'm upgrading from a v6.01 box to a v7 box. I choosed to install a new server w/ v7.

So I did the backup on my v6.01 box with the backup2 contrib.

Now, I can read on this forum that backup2 is replaced by DAR2 because rar is not GPL and users have to pay for use it.

My question is : Is it possible to do a Disaster recovery thanks to DAR2 but from backup2 backups ?

If it's not, does DAR2 contrib exist for v6.01 or does it work with it ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

On your v6.01 box, upgrade to v7, install dar2 and perform a dr backup. On your new v7 server, install dar2 and perform a dr restore.

Alternately, since you have two hardware platforms you could bypass dar all together and perform the SME 7 CopyFromDisk restore process. Ray Mitchell gave a good step-by-step outline of the process here:

Thanx a lot for your reply and for your advice Darrel.

I think I'll use the CopyFromDisk method. It will give a cleaner install than upgrading from 6.01 (I added some contribs that I should remove).

I will try it asap and give a feedback about it.

Thanx.
