Topic: Where have all my variables gone?

I'm currently trying to understand the way e-smith can be configured. I want for example disable ip_masq_quake. I know there's a template I could edit. But looking into it I also see, it could be disabled using a variable in some "dbfile". But what file? What key? What property, value? Is there any documentation about this, any HOWTO "...put variables in the right place"?
