Promise 133 TX2
« on: February 14, 2002, 02:03:13 PM »
Hello...

just to post my question again:

Is it possible to install the e-smith server&gateway ver. 5.1.2 on single HD attached to the Promise 133 TX2 controller. No drive connected to the first onboard IDE channel - CD-Rom connected to the second onboard IDE...

Any sugestions are welcome...

I don't think so.

The link  http://www.promise.com/support/redhat2_eng.asp?mode=linux_download&product_id=87
which is directed to the support page doesn't give any information about the linux support for this controller

I know...
but the controller comes with a boot-rom (difference to 66 and 100) and i read a test in a german mag (c't) that it works with suse and red hat... so i will give it  a chance und will report back...

try connecting your cd drive to the promise controller as well
that should fix any trouble you have with that configuration.

I have a promise ultra100 tx2, and I am trying to get it to work with
e-smith 5.1.2

I too looked at the support page and found no information, but I did email them.

They replied, with a patch.

The patch requires kernel 2.4.13 but I am reluctant to do this.

The file they sent me is at: www.ofdan.co.uk/ultrav120b6-2.4.13.tgz

Could anyone help me get this patch working?

Thanks

You don't need a patch. You just have to tell lilo that you have an IDE controller on your PCI bus. See this thread:
