As I see it the current version of the E-smith does a rather good job of
replacing a NT server. Proxy 2.0 is a mess, with E-Smith one just sets it up
and works. With SAMBA inabled is works as a file server with respectable
speed. The bigest drawback as I see it is its failure to share folders at
the group level. The print server issue is being talked about by many in
this discussion. I agree that is it no big thing to set up a Windows/NT
system as a print server. However that has two real drawbacks, one is the
increased overhead on the Workstation to share devices. Secondly, it makes
the Workstation visible to others on the network. That is usually no big
thing. However, I like to keep the "My Computer" or "Network Neighborhood"
as simple and primative as possible, fewer questions less training.
