Topic: Catch All Email for Domain or VDomain

I can not see any point in upgrading to SME7 when there is no option for Catch All email for a domain or virtual domain. Has this been overlooked?   I also notice that dungog vdomain also does not support a catch all email address for a domain.  

Is there any contribs that will work sucessfully?

The sme server is designed to reject email sent to invalid addresses.
That design decision conflicts with accepting any address for any domain sent to a catch all account (which are not necessarily valid accounts/addresses on the sme server).

You can implement that function by configuring external DNS mail records to send all mail for a domain to a specific (& valid on sme) email address.

Thanks for you prompt reply Ray.  What happened to being able to customize  the SME Server as long as it was secure? I thought this was supposed to be a community to help add features to the SME Server?

I am going to miss having some email pseudonyms delagated to users and another user that can catch all the rest of the email for a particular domain.

If anyone can help me with a contrib to re-instate this feature I would really appreciate it!

Nothing stops you from making any customization you want. The SME server software structure is designed to make it easy for you to customize.

You can do this using the current Pseudonym panel, although you will need to add all the possible email address pseudonyms for the domain and direct them to the appropriate end user.

Thanks for your replies.   I am aware that email pseudonyms can be delagated to users, but this is not 'catch all'.

This will take quite a while to setup with pseudonyms (Especially when most of them are pointing to the same user)

In my installation this is not ideal, but will have to do for now.   I am still interested in a 'catch all' option for domains and virtual domains if anyone has a simple way to do it.

I second this request. Catch-all service is usual and often needed.

If there is a way to customize SME server to do that, this should be explained.

Well not really. This is not usual or needed for all users.
A lot of spam is usually mailed to bogus (fake) accounts (for my server 100 per day to different users). And it would be awfull if the server sends everything else to let's say admin.

I realy hate this kind of discussion. Ok, I understand that you do not use such thing. I use it and I know lots of other people that use it, and they have pretty good reasons to do it.

Why are you trying to convince me that I do not need something that I need? I know pretty well what I need.

If you cannot help me to make it work, then, please, stay aside, and make room for someone else who can help.
