Asterisk 1.4 and SAIL
« on: January 17, 2007, 01:11:23 PM »
Has anybody had a play with Asterisk 1.4 and SAIL yet? I managed to download and install on the latest 7.1 and got asterisk running, but it doesn't seem to want to play with SAIL. FTR, these are the packages I installed to get it going:
Code: [Select]
asterisk-1.4.0-34.el4.at.i386.rpm
libpri1-1.4.0-16.el4.at.i386.rpm
speex-1.0.5-1.i386.rpm
unixODBC-2.2.11-1.RHEL4.1.i386.rpm
zaptel-1.4.0-27.el4.at.i386.rpm
zaptel-kmdl-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL-1.4.0-27.el4.at.i686.rpm
zaptel-kmdl-2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp-1.4.0-27.el4.at.i686.rpm

I had troubles starting asterisk using speex-1.0.4-4.i386.rpm so I grabbed the latest binary rpm from speex.org and installed this and asterisk started up fine. The trunks were registering OK but the extensions wouldn't register so I had to uninstall and revert back to 1.2

Hi Lloyd

We haven't tried to run sail with 1.4 yet.  We have 1.4 running to look at the gui but we simply haven't had time to fetch SAIL up with it.

There is a new "user" .conf in 1.4 which has been created for the GUI and there are various other differences, any of which could cause problems and will need working through.  1.4 looks suspiciously like a shutup job, with its own on-board webserver and the fact that the GUI architecture looks on the face of it to be completely at odds with realtime.  Perhaps Digium's  reaction to all those high-end systems which are running a mixture of SER/OPENSER and realtime?  Perhaps... perhaps not.

We will do 1.4 but right now it looks like a lot of potential work for almost no gain. Maybe we should do the work for OpenPBX instead.  It's faster and the guys running that project seem to know what they are doing and look to be somewhat more community minded.

Thoughts?
