I'm taking suggestions on new how-to's since everyone seemed to like my Roundcube article. What else do you guys want guides for?

I would like some help with Metadot. I have written a Howto for Metadot that needs some attention with the virtual host configuration. Here some links to some notes and forums on Metadot below.

The problem is putting these appz into the /opt, they are easy to install into ibays, but I have trouble with installing into /opt and creating custom template for them

I have tried to find information in the devguide (= development guide) about installing in /opt - my search was not successful.

Could anybody point me in the proper direction?

Did you get any further with this? I am wading through the Developer's Guide, but finding it slow going so far. I know that there is a Site-Maker contrib (that is in the how-to category) and I haven't tried it yet, but I am also wanting to figure out how-to install to /opt in a more "manual" fashion.

Btw. is there a typo here: "...and say the smeserver-joomla src rpm for how..." or is it slang (that I being a foreigner do not understand; more specific "say" and "joomla")

I believe snoble was telling Ryan483 to look at the Joomla source .rpm to see how to install to /opt. I think the word "say" should have been "see" as in "see the smeserver-joomla src rpm for how..." (I was going to include a link to the rpm from dungog, but I don't see the source rpm files...)

Edit: B-t-w, if you haven't done so already... You have to create a new bug in bugzilla to request access to edit the wiki. So if you don't have a bugzilla account you have to create one, then follow the link posted earlier in this tread to ask for access.

The one thing you need to install 'manually' in /opt is a template, or two.  So focus in the devguide on that portion.

Most apps come with an install README.  It will describe what needs there are besides templates (templates allow config files to 'find' your app... i.e. for apache to present the web interface of your app you need an /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf template to allow /opt to be web accessible).  The most common other requirements are a mysql database and possibly a dependancy package or two, most of which can be found in the repositories available.

Beyond that if you like you can learn about adding a config db entry or db password script.  These are also in the devguide.
