Address Book
« on: February 16, 2007, 04:40:45 PM »
Hi all

I've notice several conditions with the address book and horde mail system please advise on this subject.

I'm wondering how to have more advanced searches for the address book

I appear only to be able to search names or email addresses, and not by company name etc.

Also when selecting the title bars of the address book such as Name,Company, email it will show by those values, however you cannot search by those values it just sorts the whole address book or the Alphabetical letter you happen to select, but not searching by company etc.

Also ,I notice that when I send mail, the email addresses are added to my address book as I desire, however, the contact name is shown as [no value]

This is not really a problem, however when sending a new mail message and using the address book in the body of the email in which to select a email recipient,  it does not show those email addresses available ?

So basically I can't use the address book to select email addresses until I change the [no value] and add a name to the contact.
Then and only then does that address appear in the list

This is not to be confused with opening the address book and selecting the address to open a new message to send. That feature is fine once I scroll around and find the list of [no value] contacts and actuall find the address I'm looking for

Anyhow just FYI on this.

I would like to be able to search by company ?

Also would like the recipient email address to appear in the address book feature that is the one listed when opening a new email message and selecting the address book feature to add a new recipient ?

Please advise on this subject, I hope I was able to describe this sort of glitch maybe, or please advise if anyone else has noticed such a condition ?

Thanks

Here is how I do this. Click on Address book, search, choose advanced search, then go to the Company field and put in my criteria, click on search and the results show up at the bottom.

This would make sense.  If I send an email to a user I have never sent to before, how is the system supposed to know what that person's name is.  It only at the email address to use, so that's all it can populate.

Upon further review, I changed my options for mail/address books and ticked save recipients automatically to the default address book and when I send email, what is saved when I send to a new recipient is anything to the left of the @ sign is saved as name and the whole address is saved as email.  Is this what you are saying you don't see?

Advanced search is the only way.  You could create an enhancement ticket at bugs.horde.org and see if they will add it to turba.

I don't think I understand the last point.  You want your recipients to appear in your default address book that is used for composing new mail?  That is what is happenning for me.  Under options, address book, address book, what do you have set at the default address book?

Thanks for the reply

I do see the advanced feature that will help me, thanks.

As far as what I see when new email recipients are added to the address book I see the email address, but the name shows as [no value] which is ok I can work with that, but the address book that is used from the new email message appears to be slightly different.
When opening a new message you can see the icon of the address book to be used to select contact recipients.
There is no advance search capable from this area.
Also when selecting from the pull down menu from (Display)Names, or email. it gives me a list of Names or emails etc, however the email contacts that have the [no value] in the Name field are not shown, which means I can't add them to receive the email from this part of the address book. so I have to go back to the standard address book and then give those email address a name other then [no value] and then I can go back and find them or add them to my email recipient list from within the address book feature within the new message being sent.

Whew it's really hard to describe in a text message here. I hope this makes sense.

I'll review this some more and send out some more mail to people who are not in my address book to see what happens and post back.
I don't know what these [no value] contact names are, perhaps this happens when forwarding mail or something.
I'll experiment some more and post back.

Thanks for the help
