otemato,
Have a look at: directory access.app
Located in: Applications\Utilities
I have OS X bound to AD 2003, working fine. Try configuring the LDAP services to authenticate against SME LDAP.
I have not tried this, but I have configured Fedora and Centos to use LDAP to authenticate against SME in the past (so it "should" work).
NOTE: Be aware, make sure your SME server is reachable via your LAN or WiFi network. If either your nic or Wifi are connected and the SME server is not available (your offsite for example), OS X will take several minutes to login while it attempts to make contact with the server. To get around this, I make sure my airport is off before I log off AND, I don't plug in my network cable until after login. I use a MacBook Pro, if your dealing with a tower, this won't be a concern.
Good Luck,
ryan
