Lost my web manager
« on: June 26, 2008, 02:40:15 AM »
I posted this somewhere else with no response yet. Hope to get some here.  I lost the web manager on the server at work.  If I try by the normal method the browser can't find the server. If I try by the IP address I get "website under construction".  I just tried it on my test machine at home and I am getting the very same result. Both of these did work with the web manager before.

Can anyone give me any ideas?

Thanks.

If I try by the IP address I get "website under construction".

You are putting /server-manager after the IP address?

William

IF I give advise.. It's only if it was me....

I am using the proper https://domain/server-manager just as I did for a month before it quit working. When I tried the IP address I did NOT try the /server-manager after it.

I upgraded from 7.2 to 7.3 and no change.  I tried the /server-manager after the IP address and that worked. But I still can't get in by the recognized /domain/server-manager  url.  But at least I can now access it.

It would be good if you didn't double post. I just wasted my time answering your question in the contribs group when it was already covered.

Please update it to point to this thread instead.

I would if I could figure out how.  I am having a lot of trouble trying to navigate this forum.  Don't have that trouble on the other dozen or so forums.  I would just close that one if I could figure that out.  Probably haven't taken enough time to try. Sorry.

are you trying to access from internal or external to your LAN? Does it work one way but not the other?

If it works with IP address but not the FQDN (ie "domain") then there is a DNS issue. I would start there to isolate.

What is serving your DNS look ups? Is it the same server or a different one. e.g. for your test machine at home is your DNS server pointing to the test machine properly? Is you PC (where you are trying to access this via browser) also looking at the same DNS server?

I am trying from the internal LAN.

I no longer have the one set up at home. Only here at work.  They should all be on the same DNS.  I have the same primary DNS set up on the SME server as I do on the machines that I am trying to access it from.

I guess I am not sure as to the DNS server?  weak in that area.
