Topic: lcdproc e-smith 5.1.2

Hi there,

Does anyone have a working configuration of Crystalfontz 634 (www.crystalfontz.com) and e-smith 5.1.2?
I have tried in vain to get it to work so far I used the following pages as a guide

I installed the dev-tools located at myezserver.com/downloads/mitel/contrib/dev-tools/
The kit is installed properly checked functionality with a windows lcd program all ok.
Found also a lcdproc-0.4.1-1.i386.rpm on rpmfind.net, too bad,  I now have a working lcd only it displays garbage !?!
any ideas?

Yes, I tried during ./configure i get a error message "X11 not found"
it seems to me that all needed packages are not installed.
How did you resolve this problem? can you send me a mini how to?

I haven't tried it on my machine. I haven't tried it period. I just like the looked of how the utility was configured through a simple text file. It does not seem to be as amibtious as LCDproc.

Looking through the install file and the website, there appears to be a driver created during complie time that allows the program to output to a X window (presumably for testing). Due to the fact that the e-smith box is missing the X libraries, I can only assume that is the problem. My recommedation would be to load up Redhat 7.0 w the 2.2.19 kernel on a another box and compile from there. Once the binaries are complete, move them over to the e-smith box.

I have wanted to try this myself for some time, but never have broken down and bought a display. Anyone want to send donations?

I have added a serial display to a freebsd box using perl script. I image this would be easy to do on e-smith

Problem solved!
The garbage output on the lcd was caused by a misconfiguration between lcdproc and the crystalfontz 634. Lcdproc supports a max 9600 baud (CF V.1x) and my lcd (CF V2.0) was came configured to 19200 baud. After changing the speed it worked (almost) perfect, some characters are still not displayed correctly but that is an issue that will be resolved with future updates of lcdproc
