SME Server 7.1.2
« on: March 05, 2007, 04:04:53 PM »
Hi,

what's the latest news on the update front?  I've just updated two servers, one now says it's SME 7.1.1, and software updater says there are no updates available.
The other says it's SME 7.1.2 !!

What's going on??

Oh, and which kernel version do I have to load to use VPN?

Oz

EDIT:

OK, found out that the latest kernel (2.6.9-42.0.10.ELsmp) works for VPN...

Also must mention that updating with command "yum update" gets SME 7.1.2, updating from S-M gets 7.1.1

Check the 1.1.2 server. Do you have the sme-testing repo enabled?
"It should just work" if it doesn't report it. Thanks!

No, don't have sme-testing repo enabled on either machine. Both machines updated to 7.1.2 after doing "yum update" command.

It looks like version 7.1.2 has been released last night and what you see is exactly as it should be - no reason for a bug report (?)

Well it's still odd that i can update using you install and not using the pannel. And as it's writen on the top of all new posts... Please report bugs and potential bugs... well this could be a potential bug or just a minot glitch but it's still worth checking it out.

I'm not sure if it's at all related but I now am getting cookie errors when I try to go to the management console. This is right after the update/reboot.

Additionally, I am able to login when I hit the server-manager by IP address instead of by name.

SME Server 7.1 Update 2 has just been released
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=36006.0

The packages were pushed to the mirrors ahead of the announcement, so some people will have updated to 7.1.2 before the official announcement.

This was done to try to avoid the mirror syncing problems seen on 7.1.1

Elliott search the bugtracker and forums for your problem. I think that it was solved. If you can't find it open a new bug ticket.

My server also updated to 7.1.2

The problem with cookies is still there. Can only login with IP-adress/server-manager

Searching shows a thread in German. Searching the bug tracker shows an argument going on as to the spec for setting cookies and how SME is now following the spec only for the server-manager whereas it didn't before.

I'm a bit confused on this...

So I wasn't supposed to name my machine something simple like SME?

I don't have any problems with 7.1.2 did you try another browser?

And open a new bug report.

Isn't it a shame that two persons have the same problems and not one of them posted this problem to the bugtracker so it can be fixed.

Edit: I have read trough the german posts and they didn't resolve the problem so i'm sticking to my previous statement. Also did you enter signal-event post-update and signal-event reboot?

Okay... I've searched the bugtracker and am taking part in the open report. The problem has nothing to do with the browser it has to do with hostnames and the specification for storing cookies.

I'm very happy that the user conference was such a success and everyone walked away from it knowing that the new rule of thumb is to educate forum members on how to search the forums and the bug tracker. That's just FANtastic.

So does this new found knowledge that every user of the forums will undoubtedly get hammered into their heads with every single post mean that we can't discuss open issues in the forums?

--

ADDENDUM: For anyone interested... If there is an FQDN assigned to the public IP of your SME firewall then you should be able to access the server manager using that name as long as you have allowed remote management from the public IP that your SME server uses. Not a fix, but something.

You can discuss open issues here but let's have a look....
We have two german users (2 of them when i last counted) that has a problem,  we have two english users that have the same problem. Don't you think that this should be reported?

And don't think that i'm harsh or something but i have read a lot of posts that start like "i have a problem with or i would like to know if this is a bug" well then don't ask report it. I have some more good posts like that but my gf got me off track here and i can't remember any of them so i'll just leave it to rest here.
"It should just work" if it doesn't report it. Thanks!

Yes, that's why I am at least on the CC list and taking part in the open bug. I am simply discussing it in the forum to try and advance the knowledge regarding this topic. If this sort of action is frowned upon or not allowed I will stop it.

It is allowed but you only did this after i asked you to.
It's ok to post any findings but don't discuss bugs here report them so we can all benefit and then if you feel that it's important post your resoults here.

Does server_name.domain_name.xxx/server-manager work? I too noticed that server_name/server-manager throws an error, but putting in the whole address seems to work fine for me.
Edit: looks like there is a good deal of discussion about  this bug. Says it is fixed in 7.1.3...
