Outlook Express and other email clientes has an option that allow keeping
messages in the server for X days, before being deleted.

In Outlook Express this is under the Advanced Options Tab as-> Remove messages from server after X dats.

I remember that this feature didn't work in older SME 5.6 versions of SME, does anybody knows if this is working now?

This feature works properly and as far as I remember it worked in 5.6 also.  If it doesn't work then please open a bug report.
