Can't access server-manager

Can't access server-manager

For some reason I can no longer access the server-manager from any workstation.

Upon rebooting I notice that

httpd-e-smith loads fine, but right after that
httpd-admin gives an error message tht it fails.

I looked in /etc/rc.d/rc7.d and there are entries

S85httpd-e-smith and
S86httpd-admin

both of them have the same date, and as near as I can tell seem to be identical.

I think the problem began when I used the server console to change the access on an ibay.  when I clicked on Save i got a message saying Software error.  maybe that is unrelated.

In any event, upon rboot I do get the message indicating httpd-admin failed and i cannot access the server-manager (www.mydomian.com/server-manager) from any workstation.  Moreover i cannot access server-manager from the e-smith console at the server.  I select option 6 "Access server manager" at the console, type in the password, and it immediately returns to the console menu screen.

Any ideas (short of reinstalling/)  Everything else works fine.

I have no visability to how heavily you have the server loaded but a backup/restore routine is probably the cleanest way to repair the damage.

At least, that's what I would do.

If you have another server --- junk, anything --- you could test the re-install, to make sure it fixes everything, and transfers your settings correctly.  I had an opportunity to use the restore feature this weekend, in the course of upgrading a client to better hardware.  It is slick and braindead easy...

If I have strange problems, I start with going through the "Configure this Server" screen at the sme console and reboot.  If that doesn't solve it, you could run
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade

Many thanks for your advice.  I had done the "configure this server" and reboot routine to no avail.  Your clue about running /sbin/signal-event post upgrade wokd like a charm.  I an that command and rebooted and all is well.

Thanks so much.
