Hi all,
Let me start by apologising for being a Linux and SME Server newbie.  With that clear I hope the next question does seem too supid, but...

I trying to set up a home server for file sharing, print serving and torrent downloading.  I have a older celeron 2 GHz box that I have cleaned the HD, so it has just a NTFS format and no boot data.  I expected to be able to start the machine with the CD created from ISO image and have it boot from the cd and commence the install. It's not doing this, instead I get a boot error and can even type the "smei586" command I found in the "readme.txt".  The bios is set to boot from Floppy, then CD, then HD and this works fine if I use other file server apps like FREENAS.

Do I need to install "CENTOS" before SMEServer?, or perhaps SME7.0 and then upgrade to 7.1? I can't find any suggestion of this in the help wiki....or have I missed something?

The SME 7.1 CD should boot.

Are you certain that:
- Your downloaded ISO is intact (have you downloaded the md5 checksum and compared it to the checksum on the downloaded file)?
- Your CD is a copy of the ISO, and not a disk containing the ISO file?
- The CDROM drive on your target system actually boots other CDs?

(I'm listing the things that have tripped me up in the past; I'm not trying to be insulting...)

no offence taken,

I have confirmed the checksum was incorrect and have managed, after several attempts (6) to get a full iso with the correct one..... so this disk should work.

Thanks for you help and I'll let you know I get on.

Somehow there ended up with two threads on this topic, so I'll answer in both.  I found the MD5 check sum was wrong the first 5 times i downloaded!, the 6th time work though and it is now installed.  Thanks for your help.
