Clean Install of 7.1

Hi all,
Let me start by apologising for being a Linux and SME Server newbie.  With that clear I hope the next question does seem too supid, but...

I trying to set up a home server for file sharing, print serving and torrent downloading.  I have a older celeron 2 GHz box that I have cleaned the HD, so it has just a NTFS format and no boot data.  I expected to be able to start the machine with the CD created from ISO image and have it boot from the cd and commence the install. It's not doing this, instead I get a boot error and can even type the "smei586" command I found in the "readme.txt".  The bios is set to boot from Floppy, then CD, then HD and this works fine if I use other file server apps like FREENAS.

Do I need to install "CENTOS" before SMEServer?, or perhaps SME7.0 and then upgrade to 7.1? I can't find any suggestion of this in the help wiki....or have I missed something? :oops:

Did you check the MD5 sum of the ISO file you downloaded and did you use the CD check at the install screen? If no, start with that.
You don't need to install anything else but SME.

Ahh, the checksum on the SMESERVER.iso and SMESERVER-7.1.iso were not as per the list, but the SMESERVER-7.1-SRPMS.iso was OK.  I'm trying SMESERVER-7.1.iso from a different server now, the Plantmirror one seems to be giving funny results.

As a side note whats all the file options mean? (eg. SRPMS?)

SRPMS = Source RPM's
RPM = RedHat Package Manager (compare this with what MSI does for Windows)

The SRPMS CD is not something you need to download to get your server.

Somehow there ended up with two threads on this topic, so I'll answer in both.  I found the MD5 check sum was wrong the first 5 times i downloaded!, the 6th time work though and it is now installed.  Thanks for your help.

Maybe you have problem with the ram of your system. Try to check with memtest86
