Preorming a clean install
« on: June 10, 2007, 12:31:05 AM »
Hi Group,

Please excuse my lack with experience with e-smith server. I need to reinstall e-smith 7.1, and I notice that in the readme file the CD doe not automatically boot to the set-up of the software anymore; so my question is how do a get to command line that will enable me to run set-up.

Question two under the download page there are a number downloads to choose from e.g. smeserver-7.1.iso and smeserver.iso . Which is the proper file for performing a clean install?

Thanks in advance,

Scott Smith

smeserver.iso is supposed to always be linked to the latest version available - at this time that should be the same as smeserver-7.1.iso.  Download the md5 sum files and compare them - they should be identical, I think...

While 7.1 doesn't run the install automatically it should still be pretty easy.  I've installed 6 or 7 sme 7 servers and have no idea exactly what to press to get it installed - I conclude from this that the 'install' option must be so obvious I never had to strain any brain cells finding it...

I must have misunderstood the readme file; I thought it stated that 7.1 no longer boots to the CD therefore the install screen does not show up. But from what you are saying it sounds like as long as the computer BIOS is set to boot to the CD first it does boot to the CD and you are presented with the install screen. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance,

Yes - the CD still boots.

Now you get a menu of options including install; with 6.0.1 the system ran install if you didn't type something else first...[/i]
