can you be more specific about your physical setup, and intended mode of operation?

When you say Internet Connection Sharing, under Windows this means using one workstation as a gateway for another machine on the network. Is this what you want to do?  Or will you use an ethernet 4-, 5-, or 8-port hub to connect the other machines to?

of course you're using e-smith to "internet share", there are some good guides on Cable Modem connections, and also search the lists here, but I think a frequent obstacle is to use DHCP with the system name, which means the system name you configure into e-smith should be the user id Rogers supplied

Thanks for the response.

The system will be connected to other machines running win98, via a 5 port hub. I have'nt connected the hub yet, just trying to get the internet connection tested positive.

The settings are basically operation mode - dedicated server and gateway, DHCP enabled - send system name as client id (this is a number given to me by rogers cable, crxxxxx-a) , DNS service - not used. local ip address 192.168.101.1. local subnet mask 255.255.255.0, DHCP host numbers from 192.168.101.65 to 198.168.101.258. Pimary domain name tofu-dog.com (can be anything, or should it be the isp domain name?), system name crxxxxx-a, external proxy - no.

The ethernet adapters in the server are external - dlink 530 tx - picked up as via rhine, and internal smc ez 10/100 smc 1211 series, picked up as rt18139.
