How can we try future releases of SME (like 7.2) in order to try it before stable version?

Use vmware and test it on a virtual machine.
And if you're testing it use the bugtracker and help to check for bugs if you find any. The devs will really apreciate it.

From the developer list - and please read and assist where possible. Bug confirmation and fix verification will greatly assist the devlopers in getting the next version out.

Note: you will get NO support on the forums for unreleased software.

You can download a test iso from
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/releases/testing/7.2/iso/

If you download the smeserver.iso this should always be symlinked to the latest smeserver-7.2.xxx
- Fresh install or upgrade of 7.1?

That will depend on the bug history.
- Access list of Bugs to be verified for 7.2 from .... (search/link?)

You/Any could do this by selecting Advanced search then choosing the Product to include
SME Future, SME Server Release 7.x, SME Server Release 8.x and SME Translations.
We choose SME Server Release 8.x incase any fixes found there have been back ported to SME Server Release 7.x
- Become familiar with Bug before applying new package

You will see what's needed to do in a bug by taking time to read and understand what happened, sometimes the replication and how to check fix the problem is there in the Bug (Including some gems )
- Download new package from ... (link?)

Once you read Bug and understood whats needed then you can download just that package from the smetest directory as follows...

Normally when I test/verify I issue an signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot for good measure's.

Same as above
- Verify or otherwise reopen.

Once you've seen the Bug your working on is broken on your SME Server then you've updated the relevant package to fix the problem you can then verify or reopen stating why

If anyone does need guidance on a Bug please set the need help to verify box.

I think you can also upgrade from 7.1.x to 7.2 using yum if you enable the 'smeupdates-testing' repository, but I'm not sure...

If so, you'd do it like this:

I tried the above on my up-to-date-as-of-yesterday(6/15/07) 7.1.3 system and got back the updates listed below.  I can't tell you if it worked, 'cause I answered 'N'...

You can and it will, of course if it didn't don't forget to report all bugs and potential bugs in the bug tracker

I did answer "Y" and so far it is working fine since about 2 weeks. I did not find a bug that I could report.....

I've done the same, and have not had any problems to date for standard usage.
