Vista - Slow logon to domain
« on: January 21, 2008, 02:35:42 PM »
I'm having a small problem. I built myself a new computer with Vista. I then connected it to the domain (SME 7.2). And all works nicely.

For some reason, when I login it sits on the "Welcome" screen for about 3-4mins (approx), then shows the desktop. I thought this was a bit long, but thought maybe it was doing something so I left it.

We have also got new PCs at work, these logon to a Server 2003 network, and on this same screen the logon is almost instant.

I'm just wondering, why is mine so slow to logon to the SME domain? It doesn't appear to be doing anything (very minimal network traffic and hdd use durring the wait). It makes no difference if all network drives are accessible durring the time of logon.

Is this normal? I'm not sure if it's the Workstation or the Server.

As it clearly says whenever you post:

Don't report problems here - Please report bugs and potential bugs in the bug tracker

There used to be a problem with Vista and TCP/IP connection.
Have you patched your machine with all patches?

I'm using the discussion method to work out if this is a SME bug or not.  :-? (In other words, "is it just me or is this normal")

I have updated the machine with all patches. I'm also trying out the new Vista SP1 RC (problem started before this).

Perhaps you don't understand the meaning of the word "potential".

Smitro - We can decide if its a potential bug or not in the bug tracker, this really is the only/best way for the potential bug to be worked out and in a quick time.  We shouldn't have a core developer spending his time trawling though the threads having to point to the bug tracker as his time could be spent making our software better over on the bug tracker.

SME Server general rule is "if it doesn't work out of the box - then report a bug"

If it is a human error then we will close bug and point in right direction on how to correct the issue.

Please don't take my post as a flame/attack its not, its trying to make SME Server better than ever :)

Thanks.

No worries. I just didn't want to clog up the bug tracker when I know there is a lot of good work happening there. I'm just going to update my server to 7.3 and then if I'm still having trouble I'll list it.

I really appreciate the help I get here, so anywhere I can help out I will.  :-)
