Can VMware be installed on a SME server, and you have virtual machines be the internal network, and the SME server be server and gateway for them?

This section of the post does not include the installation of GCC.
Initially I was stuck when I ran vmware-config.pl since it was unable to find the gcc compiler. So I started reading previous sections of the same post and it became clear that I needed to first install gcc and then follow the steps listed in the link above.

However thanks a lot william_syd for the steps you have given because of which I am running vmware on my server

The was a how-to in the old wiki that incuded the install of GCC and is subsequent removal at the end of running vmware-config.pl .

The requrement for GCC is an optional maybe. Depending on your kernel at the time you may find the the included modules load and run perfectly (it will give you a message to this effect).

Also, be aware that a yum update that includes a new kernel may cause a failure of VMware-server. In this case, you will have to re-run vmware-config.pl and rebuild the modules.

Finally, VMware-server benefits from a lot of ram.
