Topic: Setting up SFTP server to post to SME Primary website?

I would like to set up a secure FTP server, to allow me to use tools like DreamWeaver, etc. to connect to the root Primary website on my SME Server, rather than having to manually push the files to my site using SCP, Samba, etc.

Can anyone explain how to enable SFTP and to make it's default root directory, the top level directory for the Primary web site?

It's all in there. You'll have to enable sftp in server-manager and add some users/groups to the ibay (if needed).

Yes thanks for the loving words of encouragement, but I didn't see anything in the documentation when I read through it, about setting up SFTP access (if that's even available in SME.)

If SCP and SSH, and not SFTP, are the available remote access protocols for SME that's all I need to know.

My second link is about ftp. And the third one is about ibays and fit but you have to read them both. So please do that and you'll se that it's covered in the manual.

Sorry for the harsh words but you had to go from wiki to this forum and you really should read the manual at least once.

As well as reading the manuals (all of them) "carefully & completely" (to use my mildy famous expression), you should also search the forums thoroughly as many "popular" questions have already been answered.

A search on ftp (& I think even sftp) will lead to to many posts over the last couple of years (which are still mostly applicable), that relate to additional tweaks you can make with a rpm from dungog and setting up user access to user homes or ibays or wherever required/preferred for ftp/sftp access.

Look for smeserver-remoteuseraccess rpm from dungog.net

Don't overlook reading the bugs, they are very informative and can quickly resolve a "common" problem that others have already experienced.

A case of thought & fingers saying/doing slightly different things again.
I believe I intended to say "You will need to login to save searches", as that's what I was thinking at the time. You points are quite correct and I have edited the original post appropriately (for the benefit of future readers).
