mysql does not start on reboot
« on: July 28, 2007, 06:09:33 AM »
g'day,

A couple of days ago with suggestions from the forums, I ran
Code: [Select]
yum clean all
yum update

However, I then cancelled the update because it is 70Mb large. The office does not have fast download speeds and I prefer to select and break the list into smaller segments. I trust yum to figure out the proper dependencies.

Over the last couple days, I have updated three portions of the update list but some updates are still unapplied. However after the third update, the server does not properly restart. It fails when attempting to start mysql. And then it starts no other processes.

I am unable to connect to the network from other computers nor run another yum update to download and install the remaining updates. I have run a second 'post-upgrade and reconfig' from the console but mysql still does not start.

At the moment, my best option seems to be download the 7.2 CD and update from there. Hopefully, someone on the forum has a better idea or some suggestion to get up and running more easily.

Unfortunately, I am at home and don't have access to the logs to say exactly which updates have or have not been applied.

g'day,

It took a few hours to download the v7.2 iso. Doing an update from the CD did fix the mysql.init start problem. The system does seem to be up and running normally now.

(I noticed in the logs that there was a
Code: [Select]
mysql.init: Loading 10fix_privilege_tables into mysql succeeded

Akn,
May I suggest you enter a bug report about this.  This may be of interest to the Devs, and could be documented if there is an issue with doing updates in small chunks.  Thanks.
chris.

I noticed teh same behaviour, however I downloaded the updates in chunks because I kept getting the error messages that there were no more mirrors for a certain download.

Quick question though: does the update to 7.0 delete all setups/i-bays/users etc?

Looking at an upgraded and fully functional SMEserver 7.2 now. Works like a charm. So I guess that there is a bug with partially updating....
