Follow-up on an e-mail issue from before

A month or so ago I posted about a problem with certain e-mail users sending mail to my e-smith server (I run my homenet on one).  The problem began right after the upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1.2.  Anyhow, one friend of mine who consistently has trouble connecting did some diagnostics from his office.  I've copied the relevant part of the e-mail here for (hopefully) a pointer:

Here is some SMTP info for you. I cannot send mail to janeshouse.com from my
home domain (daitch.com) or from nestor.com. Both sites report SMTP errors.
At home, I get 420 read errors which means that my gateway is waiting for
some kind of acknowledgment that never comes. Below is from my Exchange
server at work"

A timeout occurred while trying to deliver mail to 65.188.83.21 (for
janeshouse.com). Undelivered mail will be  retried later. The timeout
occurred while waiting for the sign-on banner.

I can telnet into janeshouse.com on port 25 from both home and work,
although it is kinda slow to respond.

Now, most sites can send without problems to my server - it's just a few that can't (my Exchange server at work runs to it just fine, for instance).  And it's new since the 5.1 upgrade.  I'm running in server-only mode, on a static IP behind a NAT router.  I only run file, mail, and web on this box, and it's very lightly loaded.  My guess is that my server is trying to do a reverse lookup before accepting the connection, and it's failing for some reason.  I'm going to dig into the logs when I go home and post anything I can find that may help - but I figured I'd get the initial post up now in case there's something obvious.

I've just had ago, and it seams to work.  It may be the other peoples connection....

If you need me to test it for you from the UK, let me know.
