YUM update not working
« on: September 27, 2007, 11:07:23 PM »
Hi to all, it seems that I a requesting assistance until I get stable.
I have to admit that I don’t know how I damage the yum, but I admit it was me. I was trying to install awstats and I did something wrong in those days. After that I notice that every time that I ran yum in server-manager there was never updates. When I ran yum in ssh command line I notice that it was pointing that could not find an xml witch I do not recall  the exact name. the thing is that I follow some step and then I get errors. I do not want to damage my server that been running nice from 2005 with sme.

I forgot to mention that the VPN does not work but I hope when I fix yum, there is an upgrade to fix it. If not you will se me requesting help from you gentlemen.

This is a print of my error

This means your system is at the current state and there are no updates to be installed.

What is the error worth your VPN connection? My guess is it might be a configuration/setup option. Could you specify some details as the VPN method you use, ip ranges and layout and of course the error or the symptoms perhaps we can help you solve the VPN issue as well.

I do not mean to barge in, but we better make sure that this system is updating, the original post states:
Quote
After that I notice that every time that I ran yum in server-manager there was never updates
And the last post from Iguzman suggest that nothing has been updated after resetting the repos.

The last lot of updates available are:

The original post used the incorrect repository configuration data. I assumed that using the correct data no updates were available. AFAIK the system checks for updates after a change has been made to the enabled and disabled repositories per server-manager. It will not do this with command line changes. You can either force this from the command line, which the user did or wait for 24 hours for the cron to do it's work and actualize the list of updates.

To be sure you could clear all data cached by yum and try the update command again:

Code: [Select]
yum clean all
yum update

IMHO this should renew the data and install available updates.

Like always I’ll like to start tank you guys for your assistance.

The VPN was working fine since 2005, even when I did the upgrade first to sme 7.1 but I can’t tell if it was the upgrade to 7.2 that created the problem. My internals IP range are 192.186.X.X and I tried to access from public IP and also from a network with a range of 172.16.2.X. my concern is that there is long time that I don’t see update for spamassist or any other contribs.

I ran  rpm -qa --last | head -20 I added few more line until I found something related to the PPP for you guys can see if I have the latest ones.

You server is fully up to date, last successful upgradde has taken place on Fri 21 Sep 2007 04:41:12 PM AST.
So you or someone else must has performed these operations, SME does not perform automatic updates.
Since this upgrade, you have installed:
sme-crontab_manager-1.2-3                     Sat 22 Sep 2007 09:59:15 PM AST
smeserver-awstats-1.2-5.el4.sme              Sun 23 Sep 2007 05:01:07 PM AST
awstats-6.6-1.el4.rf                                   Sun 23 Sep 2007 05:01:05 PM AST
sarg-2.2.1-1.el4.rf                                     Sat 22 Sep 2007 11:18:02 PM AST

Cactus assessment was correct.

Edited:
As regards your VPN access issue, have you checked the Wikis"
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:User_Manual:Chapter1#VPN_Access

Also check:
http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3427
and related Bug #3426

Best would be to open another topic in the sme7 section, this will facilitate search at a later stage, one issue per topic.
Hope it helps.
