mp3 streaming from the SME server - how?

OK, I've done a long search and read every query on this issue and none really seem entirely applicable to my problem.. Just a recap:

I cannot stream using the jukebox. I can fetch the file and play it without issue but streaming results in a failure. I'm using Media Player 6.4 under Windows 2000. The error is: Cannot open.  Please verify that the path and filename are correct and try again. (Error=8007000D)

That's the error I get on every streming link. Further, when hovering over a an individual (say, glowing.mp3) stream button I can see the target is glowing.m3u?play=1. Obviously this fails, as there is no such file. Even if I manually create such a file with the name of the mp3 inside it will still fail to find the file, even though I have just created it. Most infuriating.

I've added the appropriate entries for the SME server into hosts and lmhosts. For example: I have named the SME server 'trial' and given it the domain 'router.home'. The server is running in private gateway mode. i.e. it's not serving the world, only the LAN but it IS the WAN gateway and router/firewall.

An nslookup for router.home resolves correctly to the SME server when run from the workstations or from the SME server as root. The WAN connection is a basic PPPoE link and DNS service is auto assigned from the ISP over that link. (Not that I think this is relevant.

Even if I create a .m3u file as per the jukebox instructions I still cannot stream from the server through a browser. However, if I use explorer and connect via samba to the iBay and access the html folder I can execute the .m3u file and it will play flawlessly.

Does anyone ha

Looks like My spelling, grammar and also the last line in the first post got a little chopped around. I have to take responsibility for the first two (rushed) but the latter one isn't my fault. :-)

The final line is meant to read: Has anyone been able to solve the mp3 streaming issue for a fictitious domain? If so, what steps did you take to resolve it? Could you put it in step by step form for a dummy like me?

The mp3 blade automatically prepends "www" to file names for streaming.  So, in your case, www.router.home has to be definded in DNS, which it obviously can't be because it's not a valid name.  Try doing a nslookup on www.router.home just to be sure, but I think you will find that is the source of your problem.

When I do an nslookup it resolves correctly to 10.0.0.1 (the SME internal IP) This is the same on the workstations and locally on the server.

I'm really at wit's end with it.

Well, mine wouldn't work when I had a dyndns address (brummell.homeip.net), as soon as I switched to a registered domain I was able to stream.  I don't have an answer for your problem.  Sorry.

Well, thanks for all the replies and suggestions. That Andromeda page is very nice and has some nice features. In any case I got streaming going, but not by really fixing anything.

I installed Winamp.

Bingo. Streaming no longer an issue. This doesn't answer the question of why Media Player 6.4 failed to. All I have done is avoid the problem rather than solve it. I do not know if later versions of Media Player are afflicted by the same problem as 6.4. Perhaps someone could enlighten me?

In any event, Winamp 2.7 allows streaming without issue.
