cannot boot. help please.
« on: November 06, 2007, 05:32:56 AM »
Running updates on secondary server to bring up to 7.2. Had some issues with the installer, so I was running the updates a few at a time from the web interface.  During one reboot (sorry, don't know what updates ran), system didn't come back up. On the screen, 'interface dev**** not found' was scrolling by super fast. Did an interactive startup, didn't start Eth0, got the system back up, switched the network to the 2nd NIC, and am now able to boot up on that nic.

Here is the message that is repeated over and over in the 'messages' log.

Any idea how I can return the system back to the 1st nic and fix the problem? Thanks. Kat

You might try an upgrade using the 7.2 iso.

I tried that, actually. No help. Still just streams that error by continuously.

Ouch.

If you can still boot it up with Internet access, you could try to finish the yum updates.  Be sure to follow the sequence outlined in http://wiki.contribs.org/Updating_to_SME_7.2#Yum_Update in order to get your yum repository configuration up to date.

If that doesn't sound workable, you may want to backup, reinstall, and restore...
