The "best" people seem to have already been involved in your bug report.
A suggestion is to try completely deleting your admingroup, and then see if normal admin access is available to server manager.

You say you totally recreated the situation with a second sme server and had the same result.
Well try it with a basic unmodified sme install straight from the 7.2 CD without upgrades, and without adding additional groups and users etc etc etc.
It's probably better to add any results of these tests to the bugtracker, rather than scattering the information throughout these forums, and keep in mind this is the holiday season now, so responses may be slow/less.
