Vista Ultimate & SME Domain
« on: January 04, 2008, 09:37:42 PM »
I am trying to connect Vista Ultimate to the SME Domain, I can't seem to get it working
I have a XP Pro box connected to the Domain with no problems.
I have followed the information in the forum http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=35154.0
and the bug http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2256
But still no good.

I am running SME 7.3 with dhcp.
My vista box can see the server and the ibays and can log in manualy, but not to the domain
Can anyone help ??

Thanks
Dale

Hi There,

SME server pretends to be an NT4 box (it actually pretends to be NT4.9) and obviously doesn't run Active directory which Vista as standard requires.

Follow the instructions here: http://help.lockergnome.com/vista/Joining-NT-Domain-ftopict11334.html

And you should be able to connect to the domain.

This is probably a stupid question, but SME is set to be a Domain controller right?

Yes, SME is setup as domain controler.
I already have XP Pro systems on the domain.
Its just Vista Ultimate

MY Vista ate it's RAID and I left it that way!
But of more help, in the security settings of Vista you can tweak the authentication, after which it talks to SME.

Wish I remembered the exact changes, but this may point you in the right direction.
