Can't Access the internet
« on: March 28, 2008, 06:12:32 AM »
I cannot access the internet from the server. I just installed sme 7.3 on a giga-byte p35-ds3l quad core q6600 2gb ram, 2x500gb sata hdd's and basic video card and extra d-link gigbite ethernet card. Is it a driver issue I put in exactly the same settings as my last server just in case but nothing works. Has anyone else had trouble with the p35 chipset?

Thanks

I changed cables and everything I could not ping anything from the server. Thanks for the command I am new to linux. I did how ever get the  problem resolved by swithcing network cards. The nic card on ga-p35-ds3l didn't work and I bought a netgear gigbit Ethernet card still didn't work. I changed it to a older card that I had lying around the house and it work just fine. What was weird though was that the OS recognized all the hardware just fine but nothing would work on the board or the netgear card. The old card use the same driver as the new netgear card but when I try to install the netgear card after installing the old card it sends the os into continuous reboot. In closing the old nic card works fine I can access the server manager from any computer only by the ip address not by the server name though. I will continue to try to get the web server part up with some trial and error. Thanks for all your help

The gig cards are supported.

If you put the cards back in and reboot and @ the console check

Code: [Select]
lspci
I would also put one in at a time.

Also try enable/disable onboard nic.

I have some netgear (ga311) gb nic's in sme and they work.
Also the intels work.

Sometimes when you put two (new out of box) of the same nic in a pc the bios can't disseminate the two so it doesn't assign IRQ.

Also might want to check to see if you have the latest bios for your MB.

It's a bios detection issue and not so much an sme issue.
