RPM's List
« on: January 19, 2008, 12:11:21 PM »
Hi,

This may be a dumb idea  :-?, but anyway:
is there any list of RPM's?

I've post this question because it would be super nice  to browse
through a list of working out-of-the-box RPM's ONLY!

Examples:
Phpldapmyadmin:
Installation
wget "http://www.vanhees.cc/index.php?name=CmodsDownload&file=index&req=getit&lid=323"
yum localinstall smeserver-phpldapadmin-0.9.8.3-1.noarch.rpm
Uninstall
yum remove smeserver-phpldapadmin
more information: http://wiki.contribs.org/Phpldapadmin

Gallery2:
Download
wget http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dberteld/gallery2/smeserver-gallery2-2.2-3.noarch.rpm
Installation
yum localinstall smeserver-gallery2-2.2-3.noarch.rpm
uninstall
yum remove smeserver-gallery2

more information: http://wiki.contribs.org/Gallery

Also great for newbies:     :-o
Here we have a list of major contribs:
http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Contrib

Here we have the how to's, which is also great:
http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Howto

Here we have categories:
http://wiki.contribs.org/index.php?title=Special:Mostcategories&limit=500&offset=0

Here we have popular pages:
http://wiki.contribs.org/Special:Popularpages

The information in this places are very useful, however, i think the hability to browse over RPM's simple installation would be great!
Am i wrong?...  :???:

Thanks for your patience

If you would have taken a look at the wiki you would probably have found this: http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Contrib . Now how is that for a list?

Many people have taken the time to add all those pages you refer to, and if they had not done so, then they would not be there for you & others to read.

If you feel a big list of installation steps for all working out-of-the-box RPM's would be useful, then feel free to create the page in the wiki and keep it up to date as more contrib rpms & howtos are created.

This place runs on user effort, so feel free to contribute.

Personally I feel that as the information you ask for is already available in the formats referred to, then another list is unneccessary duplicated effort, and extra effort to maintain.

Agreed, I Think we have enough rpms in contribs that we now need to choose a few and highlight them

what the format should be and which rpms get listed are the questions

I'll start a page with my ideas, http://wiki.contribs.org/Contrib_List
The good thing about the wiki is you can make your own list, if we like the page it gets a prominent link.

Hey guys, i meant no harm! And as i said it may be a dumb idea!

And Cactus, i posted that same link in my initial post!..

And i'm the first to recognize the HUGE effort made for all the contributers for SME. And there's plenty of information avaiable.
Please don't get me wrong.
I't just that i'm trying to replace a Small Windows Business Server (wich we use only for Outlook Webmail and basic filesharing) with SME SERVER, and i stumbled in a much more powerful and reliable server, which, best of all, is free!
So, i'm very grateful!!

Like i said, it was a dumb idea!

Thanks for the replies!

Regards,
Rui Pedro

No one is getting you wrong.
This place runs on people like yourself contributing something when they identify a need.
If you want to see something on the wiki then just do it !
As Stephen Noble has indicated in his post, he intends to create such a page.
You could also have taken the initiative & created a wiki page.
Now you will be able to add to & update the page he creates.

Rui;

It's free but, if by chance, you made a donation you'd sleep better at night.  :-)

"is there any list of RPM's?"

Typically, RPM's are put into repositories. SME repos closely follow CENTOS repos:
http://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=33

By default, you should have some repos already enabled:
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:FAQ#Yum_Updates

I believe you are looking for the smecontrib repository which is found here:
http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/linux/distributions/smeserver/releases/7/smecontribs/i386/RPMS/

You can also add CENTOS 3rd party repos:
http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Yum_Repository

I don't think install details are of much use, that's just duplicating the wiki page and wiki pages change

This page gives a description of the contrib,
just an application name listed in the contrib category may make things harder to find than they need to be.

If you have comments regarding the page add them to the discussion tab.
