Metadot
« on: January 22, 2008, 12:14:28 PM »
I need help with Metadot. I've tried their forums and have not had any response.

I cannot cut, copy or paste when editing. I can't do this from an outside document or from an metadot page.

Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.

Ian

Ian,
Metadot editor uses it's own java applet and it kills the cut and paste function of the Webbrowser. However if you edit the header, you can use webbrowser cut & paste function.

It's a feature.

Thanks for your quick response. I want to cut from my some text from my wiki (moinmoin) and paste into a web page.

I'm sorry I don't understand what you are getting at when you say "if you edit the header". How would one do that and what edits would be made?

Thanks in advance

What I mean is editing the Section Heading field.

And for the web page editing, Metadot uses htmlarea3 java applet.
Right click on the Section Content (in the editor) and wait for a few second, a popup menu will be shown with cut, paste, cell properties, row and column properties in it.

When I am editing a section, and I right click on the section content a menu does pop up with all the functions you describe and more. They all work except the copy, cut, or paste.

There are also copy, cut and paste buttons in the "Gui" portion of the editor. They don't work either. If I hilight the area above the edit section (where you type), and select properties, I get the following;
Image Properties:
Location:     https://mydomain.ca/js/htmlarea3/imagest/ed_cut.gif
Width:        18px
Height:       18px
Size of File:  Unknown (not cached)
Alternate text: Missing

These must all link to some piece of programming somewhere but the link is broken or prevented. Any assistance to solve this would be appreciated. I have tried the metadot forum before posting here but that seems to be a waste of time.

Cut & Paste Works for me.
Maybe the browser compatibility?
I use MS IE 6.

Wow, thanks for the insight.

I just fired up the old laptop with ie6 and it works fine. The only difference I noticed is when I open a page it asks if I want to display secure and non secure items. I say ok and away it goes. It doesn't show my flash player videos.

I usually use firefox on the new laptop, so there is/are some issues that I need to address. I have ie 7 so I will check that out also.

Any ideas ?

Again Thx

Thomasch

I'm hoping that you can help with some insight into my problem or a reinstall of metadot or even perhaps a migration away. The biggest problem I have now is that when I try and enter my metadot website using IE either v6 or v7, I enter the username and password hit enter and then I get the login page again. I have my cookies set at the lowest possible setting i.e. accept all cookies.

If I then try firefox and login under a different username and password, I can see that I am logged in already using the previous username and password I tried for I.E. I have tried 3 different pc's on the lan and from the internet.

The frustrating thing is that this seems to be a progressive problem or something has gone wrong because it did work at some previous time with IE6 and IE7.

Switching to Firefox is not practical as a lot of the editing function is not working properly as it once was in Internet Explorer. I have been googling the problem til my head is hurting. Any assistance/suggestions you can lend would be greatly appreciated.

Edit - My head has stopped hurting  :-)  The solution was to remove all internet history (cookies etc) , change setting to accept all cookies, go to sight and pick "lost password", change password, log in, change password back to original, log out and then log in. Everything works. I had tried the cookie thing previously but resetting the password seems to be the trick. Not sure why
