Topic: Transfering mail from another server to SME

I'm setting up SME as a replacement for an older server (OpenBSD based). After some initial problems accessing the IMAP server, things are going pretty well. Next step is to transfer existing mail from the older server.

After locating where the old server saves its IMAP mail, I've been able to copy the mail to the SME Server. The problem I have is that the old account used quite a number of sub folders, managed by Seamonkey filters. These are stored in .name directories under the main account directory.

Its easy enough to copy the directories to the new account, but how do I update the IMAP server to recognize them? If I log into the mail account, I can see the named folders, but attempting to access them results in an error from the server.

Is there a function in SME Server to do this? Or is it something that can't be done?

Can you not run with both servers on line, and use an email client such as thunderbird to drag and drop between them?

  First thing I thought off. So far, it hasn't worked. I've got too little control over the OpenBSD box to easily change things. I may have to do that, but it looks like a lot of work, so I was hoping for a way to avoid it.

I guess I might be able to reconfigure the SME box to server only, put it back on the local net and try that...

I use Seamonkey to logon to both servers and drag and drop folders emails  it works better with multiple imap accounts and does drag and drop.

Thanks. Someone else suggested something similar. Since Seamonkey is my normal email client of choice, I'll give it a go.

It does mean I'm going to have to reconfigure the SME Server box to be a standalone server, put it on a different IP, put the original server back in as the server-gateway, do the copy, then revert to SME as server-gateway. I had hoped there might be a way to pull the mail in from backups, since I have backups for the old server, but it looks as though there isn't any real way to do that.
