Topic: SME on VMWare, then acces windows drives

Hi,

I'm absolutely new into Linux systems, but like to know more of it, because I have some limitations on vista with IIS7.

I use vista to host some websites (used to have windows 2003 with IIS 6 and PHP, but had problems with my NIC because of bad drivers), but the problem I experience is with IIS7 to get php installed and get it running.
So I decided to install VMWare, to use SME inside the VMWare, I have all NTFS partitions and would like to know if it is possible to connect from the SME server to the NTFS drives where I have my websites including some PHPsite.
Why not copy the PHPsites to the Ibay of SME, well because I have a script that can play my music files for me, and I have a lot of it, and also want to access them via Windows Media Center on my TV.

question: If it is possible, how can it be done, is there somewhere an Howto to use, or can someone tell it dummy proof for me?

I think that the Vmware server does not support direct access from a guest macine and to the file system of the host system.

I think that the way it can be done is to install the SME server to a virtual harddisk image that will be stored on the NTFS harddisk partion.

The virtual SME server wil then run with it's own ip from this virtual harddisk image.

The files will then have to be copied over from the host system and over to the SME guest system, as if it were a new "inependent" lan server with it's own harddisk.

The reason that it will have to be done like this is not due to the SME server, but due to the design of the Vmware server.

Correction:

Actually there is some options, see from page 134 and futher on (p.146,147), but I believe that the practical and reasonable way to do it still will be as described above.
