Topic: roming profile not available.

Hi,

I do not know if this is a error that i have to report or a configuration error.

Last month we had several users that will get the error that windows could not find the roaming profile.
the thing i do to solve that is copy theire data to theire space, do a chmod 777 to the files and delete the profile data.
then login, this will go ok, and copy back theire data to the my documents and desktop within windows.

did anybody experience the same? what is the cause? how to solve this??

I guess the obvious question is what happened last month to stop them logging in ?  Maybe a good old windows update ? I know you get all sorts of problems (even in Windows Servers) if you do mass rollout changes/disk cloning, as you need to change the SID for each machine, which can cause what is happening. You may have to remove your PC from the domain, then put it back in again.

I might be barking up a wrong tree here, but it's something 4 U 2 try.

thanks for your reply, but that;s not the case.
the pc's are working for a year already with this server and there are only 7 users of the 100 that have problems.

I don't think it's related to windows update because the pc's are using "juzt reboot" a program that will not allow any change on the disk of the client.

what is happening here are a couple of users for the last 3 weeks are getting the message that theire profile is not available, but others on the same computer do not have problems.
even if the problem users go to an other computer it still has problems.

I think the problem is not in the clients but on the server.

Did you make any changes to the server previous to the problem showing up?
Are the user profiles that are having issues all profiles you restored using the method on an earlier post?
Are there any clues in the log files at the moment users are having issues, for instanc in /var/log/messages or /var/log/samba/log.[hostname] or /var/log/sama/log.[ip]?

Maybe it's the individual users profiles (user.dat) file that has got corrupted during a log-off or something. If all other users are OK, and you are copying off the users "My Documents" & Desktop items to a safe location, I am not sure if you are deleting the profile from the Windows machine or the Server. Either way, I have had corrupt individual user profiles from time to time. Can often happen if the user is logged in on more than one machine at a time. I often use mandatory profiles in classroom situations which seems to prevent issues (just the teachers give me grief). Periodically I log into the windows machine via the lcoal administrator account and purge the local copies of the user profiles.

Sounds like you have a fix anyway. Are we trying to fix something you've since got a work-around, or do you continue to be plagued ?

Indeed i solved this issue by copying the profile, and copy it back.
the thing I'm trying to figure out is why this happens,

Up to 2 weeks ago i never had this error and now 9 times in a row.

The user profiles are purged from the clients everytime the client restarts (www.juzt-reboot.com, really advisable for public, or semi public ps's)

is there a way to prevent that clients can login at several machines at the same time?
