Opening Ports

I have multiple users in my network using timbuktu. I need to find out how to open the port that timbuktu uses so they can get through. I would like to use port forwarding but I can't figure out how to change the ports on timbuktu so everyone uses a unique port.

(Not being a mac user myself, I haven't had a chance to enjoy the wonders of timbuktu but my guess is the principle bares a close similarity to other remote acess software.)

If the support pages for timbuktu aren't providing much in the way of answers maybe you could advantage of the installed VPN support of SME. This way you get past the challanges of firewall access and have all the perks of a more secure network.

Just a thought.

Could someone give me a little vpn 101? Once you connect through a vpn can you use software like pcanywhere and timbuktu? How about ftp. I also have two different ftp servers in my network and dont really want to change the default port 21.

Once you connect by vpn your machine basically becomes another node on the network. The only difference is that you connection (tunnel) is encrypted providing you a secure connection to your network. All network services will be available to you just as if you were connected by direct connection.

if you still want know about the timbuktu ports: UDP port 407 and TCP ports 1417 through 1420
From mac to mac you only need TCP Port 407
