I am running linksys nic's and I have one in my own personal sme and it picks it up fine. What do you mean it should not override it should I choose that option?
The only option I see available to me is to do sme rescue, but that doesn't let me recofigure my system.
How do we get around the fact that sme keeps on looking for the old card

Just type sme followed by enter, it will start searching for current installations...

Yes, AFAIK you are, are you prompted to do configuration after that, like you have done on initial installation?

It depends, I have an old server, low CPU, little memory, where it runs for 20 minutes or so...

Is this dependent on what apps are installed on the server, data etc

I would try the bugtracker first, the devs (experts) are in there... perhaps they have some clues.

I have loaded 2 hard drives into my sme. The idea is to copy the data to my sme server, do a fresh installation and then copy the data back to the server. the drives came up as hdd which is my sme disk, and hdc which is the sme that is giving me such a hard time.
How do I see hdc so that i can copy the ibays and my pervasive data to hdd

Thanks

Nope, but do a search in the forums, I believe this topic has come up before.

Maybe explore2fs (http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/explore2fs-old.htm) is the tool you're looking for. I use it to handle my backups on USB disk formatted with the ext3 file system.
