« on: May 21, 2008, 04:19:21 PM »
I'm having an Pentium III mmx 500MHz PC and want to make a SME server out of it.
How do i install .ISO files on XP pro, it doesn't reconice on boot up because XP don't know .ISO files.
I know that XP vil be erased and that OK by me.
Am i missing something?

You need to burn that .ISO file to CD. Then make sure your bios is set to boot from cd rom drive. Then boot with the SME7.3 disk and follow the prompts.

Different bios have different commands to get into the setup/boot menu.

Hi,

You need to burn the ISO to a CD, and then boot from the CD. (You can't boot from an ISO directly).

The .ISO is a complete image of the whole CD, with all its files and directories - a bit like a partition image.

To actually do the burn, you will need a program like deepburner see  http://www.deepburner.com/

When you start deep burner it offers a selection and burn ISO is the last option.

Regards

Ian

Or for a freeware burning program:

http://www.imgburn.com/

And of course you will need a CD-RW drive.

I have downloaded the file SME SERVER 7.3.ISO from the UK mirrorside and burned it on a CDROM.
All that Booting is covert and is not the problem.
I vil try the DEEPBURNER trick and come back with the result later.

Thanks

Just so I understand. Did you burn the ISO as a file? (When you browse the cd do you see a single .ISO file?) Or do you actually see a file structure with a bunch of different files?

Whatever burning program you use, you need to select Create from Image.

There have been several instances lately where the download was not complete and although the ISO burned it was incomplete and would not boot correctly.

Yes, i burned it as a single file and think that's the problem.
I'm trying to burn it as an image and hope it will work.

Good Luck and have fun,

Here is the link to the admin manual (If you haven't found it yet) Chapter 5 should help you through the install.
