Scheduled backup onto network storage

I have searched the forums for "backup" - many posts. But before I start digging ...

If anyone have written scripts to automatically backup onto network drive - please suggest the tool/contrib!

I use this on several production SME servers to backup to mapped network drives and it works flawlessly.

One advantage of sal1504's suggestion is that it will not be a contrib in SME8. It will be part of the base install.
