How to disable users' home directory
« on: May 26, 2008, 02:44:23 AM »
Hi,

I am new to the sme server. So far I am impressed by the features and the ease of management.

The place where I have deployed the server, the management (two users) want full access (777) to all data on the server. Therefore, they do not want the home directories for any user.

Since the smb.conf file gets rewritten every time any samba related configuration change is performed, I am trying to figure out how this could be done. I want home directory section in the smb.conf file to be commented or deleted alltogether.

How this could be done?

Thanks very much in advance.

Not exactly what you want but might be good work around

777 doesn't give two management users full access to all data, it gives all users full access. It's always the wrong thing to do.

Sounds like you should just give admin password to those two users.

If you need to make changes in smb.conf you should create a custom-template.
