How to use multiple external interfaces?
« on: June 16, 2008, 10:15:24 AM »
Hello,

I need to connect my internal network to 3 external networks; I see that smeserver (7.3 running in private server mode) is setup to recognise only one external interfaces. The other network cards were detected quite alright but during the configuration process I wasn´t given a chance to configure them.

Pls can anyone tell me how to hack things such that I can configure more than one external interface and bind/bridge them to the internal interface?

Thanks.

Are you SURE you don´t want a firewall to do this for you ? I recommend IPCOP (http://www.ipcop.org)

you´re welcome.
I can help you on ipcop if you need... it have a lot of options... very nice options.
Several NICs for multiple reasons (WAN, LAN, DMZ, WiFi, ...)... and it´s a fork of another VERY NICE project: Smoothwall firewall... who offers payed support if you need.
Today Smoothwall and IPCOP are´nt same ...were some years ago... they share some background...
Should look at it too: http://www.smoothwall.org/ the community version is named Smoothwall EXPRESS!

Good luck and let us know about your toughts after analise options.

PFsense is another, needs a bit more RAM (note for those trying to use old kit) but does the whole "many interface" thing very nicely.
I've used Smoothwall and IPCop, won't claim its better just an alternative.
There is a range of add-ons that probably make true firewall people cringe but if its not protecting the headquarters of MI5 they can be useful.
